A method for checking a watermark in a web image is provided to suppress the illegal copy of a digital image in an Internet environment by inserting the watermark in the digital image using a watermarking algorithm. An image, where a watermark is to be inserted, is continuously divided into blocks of 32-by-32. An average value for each block is calculated. The calculated average value is 5-by-5 blurring-processed. The above processes are performed with respect to 8-by-8 blocks of the image secondarily. A watermark is created, and the created watermark is inserted in the image.
