An active type safety tripod is provided to prevent a traffic accident by installing a safety tripod at a stable position according to a daytime state or a nighttime state. A switch(30) is used for switching on/off operations of a safety tripod. A light sensor(40) is used for sensing the amount of light emitted from an installation region of the safety tripod and providing the amount of light to an MCU(80) in order to determine a daytime state or a nighttime state. A transmission/reception unit(50) communicates with a BCM(Body Control Module)(100) in order to turn on lamps(110) and transmit or receive distance information between a vehicle and the safety tripod. The MCU determines a distance between the safety tripod and the vehicle according to the information received from the light sensor and the transmission/reception unit. A display unit(60) displays the distance information according to a control of the MCU. A buzzer(70) transmits alarm sound according to a result of the MCU.
