OPTICAL LENS, OPTICAL MODULE USING IT, BACKLIGHT ASSEMBLY USING IT, AND DISPLAY USING IT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical lens, an optical module using it, a backlight assembly using it, and a display incorporating it.

SOLUTION: The optical lens has an inner curved surface for the light to enter from the light source and an outer curved surface contacting the outside. The inner curved surface for the light to enter from a point light source has a 1st elliptical surface formed with its long axis being vertical, and the outer curved surface facing outside has a 2nd elliptical surface formed with its long axis being horizontal. The curvature radius of the 1st elliptical surface is 5 mm or smaller at the 1st peak of the long axis. The 1st elliptical surface has a conic constant larger than -1 but smaller than 0. The curvature radius of the 2nd elliptical surface is smaller than 15 mm at the 2nd peak of the short axis. The 2nd elliptical surface has a conic constant larger than 0 but smaller than 1. Thus, manufacturing cost can be reduced, by increasing the effective light emitting distance and decreasing the number of optical modules.
