<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for controlling a shape in a rolling mill, by which method and apparatus, the deterioration of the quality of products can be suppressed and a stable rolling operation can be performed. <P>SOLUTION: The width of a plate is divided into a plurality of zones in the width direction of the plate. The flow rate of coolant to be jetted into the respective zones are determined respectively. The balance of the coolant for the right and left portions of the plate is kept by changing the flow rate of the coolant to be jetted into the respective zones according to the shape of the rolling material. According to the present invention, the balance of the jetted coolant in the width direction of the plate can be kept, and the accuracy of the shape of the plate can be improved.
