PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber strand for reinforcing a thermoplastic resin and for preventing the breakage of the fiber at kneading with a thermoplastic resin matrix. SOLUTION: The carbon fiber strand for reinforcing the thermoplastic resin has≥70 mJ/1,000 filaments breaking energy measured by a tensile tester of the carbon fiber strand obtained by imparting a sizing agent, and≥9 MPa interfacial adhesion strength measured by a micro droplet test measured by attaching a prescribed polypropylene resin to the monofilament. A modified polyolefin resin containing at least one kind selected from a polypropylene, an ethylene-propylene copolymer, a propylene-butene copolymer and a ethylene-propylene-butene copolymer as a main chain, and graft-modified with 0.1-20 mass% unsaturated carboxylic acids is preferably used as the sizing agent.
