PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a mold clamping device constituted so as to enhance the position measuring precision of a movable mold at the time of core back, enhanced in the precision of the positional control of a movable platen and achieved in the enhancement of operability. SOLUTION: The mold clamping device 11 is equipped with a frame 12, a fixed platen 13, a tie bar 14, a servomotor 15 for the tie bar, the movable plate 16, a half nut 17, a linear scale 18 and a control unit 20. The linear scale 18 has a detector 18a advancing and retreating according to the advance and retreat of the movable platen 16 and a main body scale 18b which does not change the relative position to the fixed platen 13 to detect the position of the movable mold 42 from the relative displacement of the detector 18a with respect to the main body scale 18b. The control unit 20 detects the position of the movable mold 42 by the linear scale 18 in a core back process and drives the servomotor 15 for the tie bar based on a detection result to control the position of the movable platen 16.
