PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which such a phenomenon as the code amount of image area information overlaps in two color mode print can be lessened and the phenomenon can be avoided even when the code amount overlaps by notifying the user to this effect. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises a document reading means, a means for extracting attribute data from a document image, a means for compressing document image data, a memory means for compressing attribute data, a means for storing compressed document image data and attribute data, a memory control means, and a means for forming an image based on the attribute data and image data. When the size of compressed attribute data exceeds a threshold, the memory control means controls the memory means not to store the data exceeding the threshold and switches the threshold depending on the print operation.
