PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-treated pigment suitable for blending with cosmetics, and improving properties of cosmetics. SOLUTION: The surface of the pigment is coated with a coating comprising a polyhydroxy fatty acid which is obtained by hydroxylating a fatty acid having at least 12 carbon atoms or a derivative thereof. The polyhydroxy fatty acid is, for example, dihydroxystearic acid (DHSA) and/or a metallic salt of dihydroxystearic acid (metallic DHSA) or a combination thereof. When the coated pigment is incorporated into cosmetic formulations, enhanced performances such as better spreadability, enhancing skin adhesion and increased hydrophobicity are observed.
