PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a geranyl derivative useful as a perfume or an intermediate for synthesizing it having lemon-like fresh fragrance and stable even under acidic conditions. SOLUTION: The geranyl derivative is represented by the formula(4)( wherein, X is COOR<SB>3</SB>or CN; R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each H, methyl, ethyl or a halogen atom; R<SB>3</SB>is a straight-chain, branched-chain or cyclic 1-6C alkyl or benzyl; and a broken line denotes a cis form, trans form or mixture thereof ).
