An electrofusion fitting (1) for a composite plastics pipe (2), the pipe (2) comprising at least one inner plastics layer (5), at least one outer plastics layer (5) and at least one barrier layer (6) therebetween, the fitting (1) comprising a tubular body (14) formed at least in part from a thermoplastic polymer material and adapted to receive a cut end of the pipe, and a plurality of electric heating elements (24, 25) disposed within the body (14), the body (14) having a first section (20) adapted to receive a length of the inner plastics layer (5) and a second section (22) adapted to receive a cut-back length of the outer plastics layer (4), each of the first and second sections (20, 22) being provided with a discrete heating element (24, 25) adapted, when energized, to make a fusion joint between the section and its adjacent pipe layer, such that the exposed barrier layer (6) at the cut end of the pipe (2) is environmentally sealed on each side by a fusion joint (1). |
