Process for preparation of an optical component for electromagnetic radiation by means of laser machining involving the steps: (1) preparation of a solid body from a material which in the untreated state absorbs laser radiation of the machining wavelength range; (2) laser machining of the solid body in one or more machining steps; and (3) material transformation in which the profile obtained is transformed into a final state transparent for the applied wavelength range.
