A mobile communication terminal and a character input method are provided to temporarily display a character of the priority order according to inputting of a numeric key and enable a user to input a character allocated at the left/right side of the character of the priority order by controlling direction keys, thereby enabling the user to quickly input the consonant of the Korean alphabet and the English sentence. A character input method comprises the following steps of: temporarily displaying the Korean alphabet of the preset priority order among plural Korean alphabets allocated to numeric keys if a certain numeric key signal is inputted(S302,S303); and finally displaying the Korean alphabet positioned at the left or right side of the Korean alphabet of the priority order if a left or right direction key signal is inputted in a state that the Korean alphabet of the priority order has temporarily displayed(S304,S305).
