A method for preparing an aqueous dispersion of self-emulsified urethane is provided to obtain an emulsifier useful for emulsion polymerization of a core-shell emulsion resin, and to produce a coating agent that shows excellent flowing or staining resistance after coating and has excellent water resistance. The method for preparing an aqueous dispersion of self-emulsified urethane comprises the steps of: reacting a di-functional isocyanate compound with a polycarbonate polyol having a molecular weight of 1000-2000 and a compound containing at least two hydroxyl groups and a mono-functional carboxylic acid group to form a prepolymer end-capped with an isocyanate functional group; and dispersing the prepolymer in an aqueous tertiary amine solution and carrying out chain extending by using a primary or secondary amine.
