An apparatus and a method for controlling electric power of an external device in a display device are provided to reduce the risk of fire and significantly decrease the standby power of external devices connected to an imaging device. An electric power supply unit(200) receives electric power, and supplies the electric power to a relay driving unit connected to a plurality of external devices. A relay driving unit selectively supplies the electric power to the plurality of external devices. An electric power controller(210) determines a specific external device, to which the electric power is to be supplied, among the plurality of external devices, and transmits an electric power control signal to the relay driving unit.
