Class 65(2) A ball and socket joint comprising a ball 1 housed between a flanged retaining plate 9 and a flanged hemispherical socket of pressed metal sheet has a concavo-convex cavity 8 between the socket and a flanged cap 6, the socket's flange being disposed between the flanges of the cap and the retaining plate. The cap may be an integral part of the control arm 7 of a suspension of the front wheel of a motor vehicle. The cavity 8 may serve as a lubricant reservoir, a sealing ring 13 being disposed between the socket and the cap. A grooved resilient liner 15 may be inserted, under pressure, in the cavity with its flange 16 between the flanges of the socket and the cap. |
