An electronic switch and a method for operating an electronic switch are provided to prevent an abnormal behavior due to an erroneous operation by a strong radio wave of the electronic switch with a simple device construction. In an electronic switch(21), an object detection unit detects a state of the object to be detected. An electromagnetic wave detection unit(54) detects the electromagnetic wave. An output unit(57) outputs a first output voltage value when the object is detected by the object detection unit and outputs a second output voltage value when the object is not detected by the object detection unit. And, the output unit(57) outputs a third output voltage value when the electromagnetic wave is detected by the electromagnetic wave detection unit(54).
