A method and a device for diagnosing a computer system are provided to enable a user to easily check and manage an error of the computer system by diagnosing a state of the computer system with information output from a POST(Power-On Self-Test) of the computer system. A computer system interface module(332) receives a POST code from the computer system. A controlling module(333) searches POST progress information corresponding to the received POST code and searches error information corresponding to the last received POST code among the received POST codes in case that the new POST code is not received through the computer system interface module. A display module(335) displays the searched POST progress and error information. The POST progress information includes the information representing hardware tested by the computer system through the POST. The error system includes the information for the hardware generating the error and help information corresponding to the generated error.
