摘要 An LCD is provided to improve operation display performance by turning on a division backlight unit corresponding to a time it takes for all pixels to achieve target transmittance by a backlight ON/OFF controller. A liquid crystal panel(5) performs image display on a display screen of a pixel configuration with M-numbered columns and N-numbered rows. The display screen includes a plurality of division regions divided by a predetermined numbered rows. A plurality of division backlight units are installed corresponding to the plurality of division regions, and emit light to the respective corresponding division regions. The plurality of division backlight units each include a predetermined light source disposed at a side of the display screen from the view of the plans on the display screen, and a partial light guide guiding light incident from the predetermined light source to the corresponding division region of the liquid crystal panel. A backlight ON/OFF controller performs backlight ON/OFF control for controlling turning ON/OFF of the respective division backlight units. The ON/OFF control of the backlight includes turning ON the corresponding division backlight units during at least part of the period during which the plurality of division regions reach the target transmittance defined by the image data, and controlling ON/OFF of the plurality of division backlight units for each frame.
