An energy recuperator uses a Rankine thermodynamic cycle system coupled to an engine exhaust pipe (2) with at least one pollution extractor such as a catalytic converter, particle filter or nitrogen oxide (NOx) trap. The Rankine system comprises a single fluid loop (4) containing a compressor, and evaporators (5, 7) coupled thermally to the exhaust gases, an expander/recuperator (6) and condensers (8). The evaporators are situated before and/or after the pollution extractor, and the system can also incorporate a thermal exchange regulator between the evaporators and exhaust gases.
