An oxygen scavenging composition is set forth in which the composition contains a protic solvent hydrolysable halogen compound which is deposited upon oxidizable metal particles, contacting the metal with an essentially moisture free liquid containing the protic solvent hydrolysable halogen compound and then evaporating, if necessary, any remaining solvent from the solid. Also set forth are walls of containers and preforms which contain this composition. |
