PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver that is reduced in size and power consumption and prevents characteristic deterioration caused by spatial correlation without using interleaving and to provide a demodulation method. SOLUTION: LDPC decoding sections 131, 132 first execute tentative discrimination processing in a decoding initial state, discrimination sections 161, 162 obtain tentative discrimination results on the basis of an obtained likelihood ratio, and replica generating sections 141 to 144 generate replica signals by using the tentative discrimination result. Then soft decision value output sections 151 to 154 obtain reception likelihood values by using a received signal and a residual signal obtained by eliminating the replica signals from the received signal. Thereafter the LDPC decoding sections 131, 132 execute main discrimination processing to apply LDPC decoding to the reception likelihood values and to obtain the likelihood ratio of each of streams a, b, and the discrimination section 161, 162 apply binary discrimination to the likelihood ratio so as to obtain information sequences of each of the streams a, b.
