The invention relates to a coupling system for detachably interconnecting furniture elements by means of two plate-shaped connecting elements. One connecting element is an opening in a first furniture element and the other connecting element is a retaining section that is provided on the second furniture element and that can be engaged with the opening. The retaining section of the connecting element comprises a base section, a section adjoining said base section and a web-shaped connecting section that adjoins said section. The head section comprises at least one undercut area which forms, in an edge area of the section spaced apart from the area, an area in which the other connecting element engages. A transitional area from the base edge to the edge area of the section is drawn in, thereby producing an inverted groove.
