Provided are a paste applier which is capable of shortening a time required to accurately set up a vertical distance between nozzle and substrate, and a method for controlling the same. The paste applier comprises: a main head unit which can move up and down along vertical direction of substrate side; a sub head unit which is fitted on the main head unit, and can move in relative motion to the main head unit along vertical direction of substrate side; and a position detecting sensor which outputs a displacement between the main head unit and sub head unit moving along vertical direction of the substrate into digital signal. The method for controlling the applier comprises the steps of (i) transferring a main head unit and a sub head unit of the paste applier downward along vertical direction of the substrate side, (ii) judging whether nozzle of the sub head unit is in contact with the substrate side as a result of the step(i), (iii) transferring a driving bracket attached on the main head unit according to judging result of the step(ii), and (iv) measuring a position variation between the sub head unit and main head unit according to transferring result of driving bracket in the step(iii). |
