ENCRYPTING/DECRYPTING METHOD AND APPARATUS TO CONTROL USE OF CONTENT BASED ON LICENSE INFORMATION

An encrypting/decrypting method for controlling use of contents based on license information and a device thereof are provided to restrict the use of the contents to diverse use ranges through the license information of the contents and efficiently select a decoding key by selecting or recognizing one use range of the contents based on the license information, and encoding or decoding the contents based on the selected use range. A use range selector(33) selects one use range from the diverse use ranges for the contents by referring to the license information of the contents. An encoder(34) encodes the contents based on the selected use range to permit the use of the contents to only the selected use range. The use range selector selects the use range by referring to an element commonly applied to the use ranges among the elements forming the license information.
