<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission apparatus and a label allocation method capable of assigning labels to a main path and a protection path through autonomous operations, the labels being associated with each other in a prescribed way. <P>SOLUTION: A node C located at a branch part between the main path and the protection part allows a PathMsg of the protection path to take over label limit information included in a PathMsg of the main path and received by the node C. Further, the node C assigns a label associated with a label notified by a ResvMsg received from the protection path to the main path. A node F located at a confluent part of the main path and the protection path allows the PathMsg of the main path to take over label limit information received by the node F and included in the PathMsg of the protection path. Further, the node F allocates a label associated with a label notified by the ResvMsg received from the main path to the protection path.
