PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting E-mail virus for simply and quickly detecting self-propagating virus attached to E-mail without the need for a definition DAT file corresponding to the virus, and to provide a mail server. SOLUTION: A mail transmission box 11 and a mail reception box 16 of the mail server 10 are respectively provided with check modules 14, 19, which generate a ranking list 13 of transmission mail and a ranking list 17 of received mail by each prescribed time to detect virus.
