PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid level detector capable of maintaining a good following response of a float when a liquid level fluctuates, without making the float large-sized. SOLUTION: A counter weight 13 is attached to a magnet holder 4 and arranged so as to generate a moment in a direction identical to that of a moment which is generated by a buoyant force acting on the float 7 around the center of rotation P of the magnet holder 4. Therefore, the weight of the counter weight 13 exerts an effect similar to increasing the size of the float 7, i.e., increasing the buoyant force. Consequently, a fuel level gauge 1 can be provided, capable of maintaining the good following response of the float 7 when the liquid level fluctuates, without making the float 7 large-sized.
