PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treating method by which surface treating can be properly carried out by bringing a treating liquid into uniform contact with the squeegee face and printing face of the part to be treated of a metal mask and formation of the treating mark caused by biased contact of the treating liquid can be suppressed. SOLUTION: A pair of divided tanks 4 having recessed parts 4a for forming a treating chamber and seal materials 4d in the opening rim of the recessed parts 4a are pressed to be abutted to the metal mask 1 through the seal materials 4d such that the mutual recessed parts 4a are aligned sandwiching the metal mask 1, a treating chamber PC is formed with a predetermined shape including the part 1a to be treated of the metal mask 1 by the recessed parts 4a of both the divided parts 4, the treating liquid PF is introduced into the formed treating chamber PC, and the surface treatment is applied to the part 1a to be treated of the metal mask 1 by the treating liquid PF.
