PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably carry out selection of a printing mode at a host device in accordance with a communication speed of an I/F (interface) which performs data communication with the host device in a printer apparatus. SOLUTION: Before selection of the printing mode at the host device, an I/F detecting means 202 of the printer apparatus detects which of the I/Fs 104a and 104b different in communication speed is being used. When the I/F detected by the detecting means 202 is the parallel I/F 104a of a low speed, a printing mode judging means 203 judges that a printing mode of the highest image quality which requires a lot of data communication among printing modes is invalid. When the detected I/F is the USB I/F 104b of a high speed, the judging means 203 judges the printing mode of the highest image quality as valid. Information on the judged result is transmitted to the host device. On the basis of the information, selection of the printing mode at the host device can be suitably carried out according to the communication speed of the I/F. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
