An instant food product, e.g. a beverage, comprises a powder mixed with a preset proportion of sweetener in the form of crystals. The crystals are subjected to a moisturizing process to enable the powder to be evenly applied to the sweetener. The mixture is pressed and dried to form single dose blocks/tablets which are simply dissolved in hot or cold water as required. The process is applicable to a range of sweeteners and food powders.
