The acoustic sounding method is a well-known technique for taking distance measurements of fluids and objects, especially in an oil well or other borehole. The method involves making a loud bang sound and recording and analyzing the echoes generated as a result. One device used for the acoustic sounding method, known as an acoustic generator, uses a gas pressurized chamber to make the bang sound and an inbuilt transducer for recording the sound, which is analyzed by a separate surveyor unit. The acoustic generator is used at or near the wellhead of the borehole. The current invention is an acoustic generator and its surveyor unit that has several new and novel features such as an automatic chamber pressure setting features, an automatic firing mechanism, the setting and firing mechanisms being actuated to work in conjunction together, an improved bang sound quality, and an improved calibration feature for echo analysis.
|
