<p>A batch method for decaffeinating a liquid is provided comprising the steps of: inserting into the liquid an electrochemical apparatus comprising at least one working electrode and at least one counter electrode that are suitable to cause degradation of caffeine; and supplying power to the electrodes for a period of time sufficient to cause the desired degree of decaffeination.</p>
