<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedal device to output the vehicle output based on the stepping force or an automobile having the pedal device capable of achieving the output of a vehicle as intended by a driver without sense of incongruity, adequately controlling the characteristic of the pedal and the characteristic of the vehicle motion when only the step-in of the pedal is retained constant, and achieving easy operation or hardly-tired operation or excellent drive feeling. <P>SOLUTION: An invalid stepping force and a hysteresis are provided irrespective of the stepping force, the vehicle output or the vehicle output command, the stepping force in the step-in operation and the releasing operation is different in relationship from the vehicle output or the vehicle output command, and a constant gradient is given to the vehicle output or the vehicle output command to the stepping force even in the retaining operation. Further, in particular, in a case of the retain-releasing operation, the vehicle output or the vehicle output command may be retained constant irrespective of the stepping force.
