PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce unevenness in light emission caused by the variations of electric field emission characteristics in an electron emission source without requiring any complicated structure. SOLUTION: A pulse signal having a cycle of at least 60 Hz is inputted to the base of a first-stage transistor TR1. When the transistor TR1 is off in a T2 period; a second-stage transistor TR2 is turned on, a resistor R2 is short-circuited for setting cathode impedance to a low-impedance state by a resistor R1, and a phosphor emits light with high luminance in a saturated state. When the first-stage transistor TR1 is turned on in a (T1-T2) period; the second-stage transistor TR2 is turned off, and the cathode impedance becomes a high-impedance state by the combined resistance of the resistors R1, R2. Then, the high-luminance light emission in the T2 period remains in human vision as an after-image, and is recognized as uniform light emission without continuous unevenness in luminance.
