PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily balance the adhesive properties of a coating film with its corrosion resistance, water resistance, etc., in an aqueous dispersion of a vinyl-modified epoxy ester resin. SOLUTION: The aqueous dispersion of a vinyl-modified epoxy ester resin is produced by a method characterized by the following: in the step of the addition and condensation of a fatty acid and a dibasic acid with an epoxy resin, the dibasic acid contains a dimer acid in an amount of at least 10 wt.%, based on the epoxy resin, thus giving a dimer-acid-modified epoxy ester resin, and in the step of dispersion, a neutralized product of a graft resin is dropped into agitated water. Since the dibasic acid containing the dimer acid in a specified wt. ratio is added to and condensed with the epoxy resin, the resin can have a high molecular weight, while assuring the adhesiveness of the resin, and corrosion resistance etc., can be assured well by the addition of the fatty acid in an amount less than the conventional amount. Since the neutralized resin is added to some more amount of water in an agitation state, the aqueous dispersion with good storage stability is obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
