A metallic sound is created by the involved components when starting a vehicle again after having been standing on an inclined surface supported by a hill start assistant system, or when the assisting brake functions are activated in a critical driving situation. In order to avoid the occurrence of these irritating sounds the motion of the brake pedal is limited by a sensor controlled mechanism. The pedal is stopped before reaching the initial position and held until the brake pressure stays below a predetermined threshold value.
