PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide low outgassing electric wire and cable which has taken clean air environment into consideration, suitable for the electric wire and cable for semiconductor manufacture. SOLUTION: This is an electric wire 10 and cable used in a clean air environment such as a clean room. The bending stress of the covering material constituting the surface of the electric wire 10 and cable is 50 Mpa or less, and the gaseous volatile component generated from the surface or its vicinity at the rated temperature of the electric wire 10 and cable satisfies the following condition: when the test piece is heated for 10 minutes, the generating quantity of an aromatic compound having molecular weight less than 500 is 5 ppm or less and the total generating quantity of an aliphatic hydrocarbon with carbon number 30 or less and its derivative is 50 ppm or less.
