PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation in reading of image, by reducing fluctuation in document carrying speed generated under a specific drive condition while suppressing power consumption, in an image reading device of a sheet through type having a stepping motor as a driving source. SOLUTION: When a drive condition (a drive current and a drive frequency) of the stepping motor for carrying documents is a condition having the possibility of fluctuation in document carrying speed, that is, in an irregular rotation occurrence condition (YES in a step S105), and when a document during carriage is positioned in a section where the document enters into roller after reading or a section where the document is released from a separating roller (YES in a step S106 or YES in a step S107), a drive current value of the stepping motor is changed (a step S108).
