PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for an outrigger capable of detecting abnormality of a potentiometer (projecting quantity detecting means) of the outrigger without detecting operation of the outrigger, requiring a plurality of expensive detecting units. SOLUTION: The safety device for the outrigger is provided with a travelling car body, the outrigger 10 fitted to the car body 2 and projected side and downward from the car body 2 to support the car body 2, a grounding condition detecting unit 60 for detecting whether the outrigger 10 is grounded or not, and a left rear projection quantity detecting unit 100 for detecting projection quantity of the outrigger 10 projected side from the car body 2. The safety device for the outrigger is also provided with a memory section 81 for storing projection quantity detected by the projection quantity detecting unit when the grounding condition detecting unit 60, which is provided in a controller 80, detected that the outrigger 10 is grounded, and a determination section 82 for comparing the projection quantity, which is detected by the left rear projection quantity detecting unit 100 in the condition wherein the grounding condition detecting unit 60 detected grounding of the outrigger, with a memory value stored in the memory unit 81 and, when a difference between the projection quantity and the memory value changes over the predetermined range, for determining that the left rear projection quantity detecting unit 100 is abnormal.
