PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide alkali metal halide lanthanide aluminate phosphorus activated by manganese which comprises phosphorus having high brightness, shorter afterglow than ever, color purity (saturation), better stability than ever, and a long lifetime (operating time) range, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This lanthanide aluminate phosphorus activated by Mn and an alkali metal is expressed by empirical formula: Ln<SB>(2-x-y)</SB>B<SB>22</SB>O<SB>36</SB>:Mn<SB>x</SB>A<SB>y</SB>and emits green light. The method for producing the lanthanide aluminate phosphorus activated by Mn and the alkali metal which emits the green light and does not contain a solvent has a process for together mixing an alkali metal source, a manganese source, a lanthanide source, and an aluminum source, so as to form a powder mixture; and a process for thermally decomposing the powder mixture under such conditions of a temperature and a time as to be enough for producing the phosphorus.
