PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic actuator in which an open part of a magnetic circuit is eliminated by surrounding a side face in which a yoke is not installed and which is open by a magnetic material, improve a suction force of the electromagnetic actuator, and improve the efficiency of the electromagnetic actuator. SOLUTION: As for this electromagnetic actuator 20, in a square type electromagnetic actuator provided with a movably installed square armature 2, a permanent magnet 1 which is installed in the vicinity of the armature and which moves or closes loop and retains the armature, solenoid coils 4a, 4b which are installed at the outer periphery of the armature and which generate magnetic flux in order to increase and decrease a magnetic field applied on the armature, and the yokes 3a, 3b made in a pair of thick plate structures which are installed in order to constitute a magnetic passage at the position of pinching the armature, the permanent magnet, and the solenoid, and a pair of covers 10 each composed of a magnetic material is installed at a position where the pair of yoke side walls are not installed at the outer periphery of the armature, the permanent magnet, and the solenoid.
