PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of correcting adverse effects on the focusing accuracy caused by its movement and shortening the time required for photographing. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus has a movement correction optical system and a focus control optical system. When an instruction for starting focus control is inputted, the correction range of the movement correction optical system is enlarged, and then the focus control is started by satisfying any of following three conditions. When the moving amount of the imaging apparatus is small, when contour information becomes high by a fixed amount or more, after enlarging a movement correction range; and when the fixed time elapses after enlarging the movement correction range, all the three conditions are considered as being a situation where movement correction has been completed or the movement influences the focus control minute, so that the focus control is started. By deciding in this way, the imaging apparatus maintains response of photographing, while preventing deterioration of focusing accuracy due to by the movement of the imaging apparatus.
