PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving the surface accuracy of an optical element which inhibits the influence given to the structure of the optical element and its reference plane by the migration of the core of a mold and improves the surface accuracy of the optical element, and an apparatus for practicing the method. SOLUTION: The method improves the surface accuracy of an optical element by the mold for use in molding, wherein the optical element comprises at least two blocks, the mold comprises at least a fixed lateral core, a fixed lateral template, a movable side core, a movable side template, and cavities formed between these cores, wherein the molten raw material of the optical element is injected into the cavity from the sprue of the mold, the optical element is formed in the cavity through the processes of making the mold open and close or the like, the manner of incorporation design is adopted for the structure corresponding to both blocks of the optical element of the movable side core of the mold, and when the movable side core moves in the process of molding inside the cavity, the positional relation of both blocks of the optical element is not affected.
