PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber type collision detection apparatus for vehicles capable of easily and reliably compensating for zero-point shifts due to temperature changes and degradations with the passage of time of an optical fiber sensor. SOLUTION: In the case of the substantial absence of changes in an output voltage for the last prescribed period of a leakage type optical fiber sensor positioned between a bumper reinforcement 7 and a load transmission plate 20 and extended in the width direction of a vehicle with the bumper reinforcement 7, the quantity of light emission of the optical fiber sensor is fed back and adjusted in such a way that an output voltage of the optical fiber sensor may become of a zero level.
