A program, a decoding apparatus, a decoding method, and a recording medium are provided to achieve fast random reproduction by decoding stream video data and recording a reference frame and a frame reproduced after decoding in the same memory region. A program includes a step of receiving reproduction information that represents the reproduction state of an encoded stream, a step of acquiring reference picture information that represents a reference picture required to decode an object picture of the encoded stream based on the reproduction information, a step of determining whether the reference picture is recorded in a predetermined region according to the reference picture information, a step of acquiring the reference picture from the encoded stream and decoding the reference picture when it is determined that the reference picture is not recorded in the predetermined region and controlling the reference picture to be recorded in the region, and a step of decoding the object picture of the encoded stream using the reference picture recorded in the region to generate video data. |
