<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a squalilium compound containing metal having a high optical absorption characteristic in a wavelength region of 350-530 nm which is recordable and reproducible with a blue semiconductor laser, because an optical recording medium for dealing with the recording and reproducing of information with a blue laser beam is desired to deal with high densification of optical recording media. <P>SOLUTION: The squalilium compound containing metal is characterised by consisting of a squalilium compound expressed by general formula (A) and a metal salt or a metal ion.
