<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voltage converter in which a step up/down circuit can be reduced in size. <P>SOLUTION: Based on current IB and the auxiliary machine currents I1-I3 calculated at step S30, a controller 30 calculates the conduction current I of a step-up converter 10 (step S40). When a decision is made that the conduction current I is larger than a maximum allowable current Imax being set based on the operating condition of the auxiliary machine (YES at step S50), the controller 30 controls the auxiliary machine to limit its load (step S60).
