An image display apparatus and a method of setting rating block are provided to receive a broadcasting signal including rating information when rating block is cancelled, and set a rating block at the request of a viewer when the broadcasting signal is harmful to a juvenile. An image display apparatus includes a tuner(10) for receiving a broadcasting signal, a demultiplexer(11) for dividing the received broadcasting signal into an audio signal, a video signal and additional information, an audio processor(12) for processing the audio signal, a speaker(13) for outputting the processed audio signal, a video processor(14) for processing the video signal, and a display(15) for outputting the processed video signal. The image display apparatus further includes a controller(17) extracting rating information of the received broadcasting signal from the additional information, outputting or blocking the received broadcasting signal according to whether a rating block is set, and outputting a banner representing whether the broadcasting signal is blocked according to the rating information even when a rating block is not set, a key input unit(16) through which a user inputs a control command, an OSD(On Screen Display) processor(19) for generating and outputting the banner under the control of the controller or blocking an image of the broadcasting signal, and a storage unit(18) for storing information about rating block.
