A method for selecting a Hangul/alphabet input mode and a system for automatically correcting mistyping are provided to automatically shift the input mode into the correct input mode while correcting mistyped characters without deleting the mistyped characters one by one and inputting the correct characters again. The method uses an input mode correcting key operating an automatic Hangul/alphabet correction algorithm, a Hangul shift key, an alphabet shift key. Background color or a cursor shape of an input window is visually discriminated according to the input mode. Shift of the input mode is auditorily discriminated by generating a sound when the input mode is shifted. If the input mode correcting key is inputted in a general character input window having no automatic mistyping correcting function, the mistyped characters are automatically corrected and the input mode is shifted.
