摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base material for a display of which the liquid crystal layer is more certainly prevented from mixing in of impurities such as ionic substances, and a liquid crystal display which is excellent in display quality even in displaying under high temperature and high humidity for a long time interval. <P>SOLUTION: The base material for the display includes a substrate, and a retardation controlling function layer constructed with a liquid crystalline polymer of which the alignment state is fixed with three dimensional cross-linking, wherein the retardation controlling function layer has been subjected to forced impurity extraction treatment in a state of brought into contact with the liquid crystal layer, and subsequently the voltage holding rate in the liquid crystal layer is made to be &ge;90% on voltage application.
